In the Torah, Pharaoh searches "a man in whom the spirit of G-d is" to help Egypt store food from seven years of plenty to see them through seven years of famine. (Gen. 41:33-38). Pharaoh uses two separate words to describe the future leader's wisdom–חכם and נבון. In modern Hebrew, חכם is the commonly used word for wisdom. The other word, נבון means wise.
We've taken the name of our practice from this Hebrew text, this description of the wisdom needed to strengthen and build community in good times and bad times.
